On Wednesday 23rd August, we propose 5 full-day Tours. Only 1 choice will be possible and a limited number of person could access to the different Tours proposed (see below). The is also some visits for those who wish to stay in Brest and 1 post-congress tour (3-day long) proposed.

Prices:

  • Full day tour: 90 € / person
  • Visits & Post-congress Tour: you need to register for the visits and the post-congress Tour with the Brest Tourist Office (more information on this Tour on the Brest Tourist Office website)

 

Full-day Tour:

  • Cruise in the Bay of Brest and hiking in the Peninsula of Crozon

Departure at 8:30am from Brest Arena for the transfer by coach to the Peninsula of Crozon. Hiking around the pointe de Pen-Hir with your English-speaking guide. Transfer to Camaret-sur Mer. At 12:45pm boarding for a meal on board of the boat "PPVR" formula (Melon, pâté and rillettes from the charcutier du Faou, strawberries from Plougastel, all accompanied by white wine, red wine and coffee. The pleasure of tasting while admiring the view). Enjoy a 3-hour private cruise to discover the ports of Brest and the Bay of Roscanvel. Historical trip to Vauban's fortifications in charge of defending the entrance of the Rade de Brest, the Trébéron Island and the Long Island, discover all the heritage of the military defense of Brest. Landing at the port de Brest at 4:00pm, Return by coach to the Brest Arena at around 4:30pm.

  • Molene island

Departure from Brest Arena at 7:45am by coach to Le Conquet (Need an ID card). Early departure of the boat at 9:45am to the Island of Molene. During your crossing, you will be able to admire the point of Kermorvan in Le Conquet, and see some islands of the archipelago of Molene (Beniguet, Quéménès, Trielen). You may have a chance to see the famous grey seals of the Iroise Sea. With a surface area of 127 hectares (including Ledenez), its highest point reaches 25 meters. Most of the coastline is rocky except for the south of the island where there are small sheltered beaches. The currents allow for a significant mixing of the water, which remains clear and favors the growth of algae that can reach 10 meters in length. Guided discovery of the island with your English-speaking guide who will accompany you all day. Lunch with a picnic on the island. Return by boat to Brest, transfer by bus to Brest Arena around 5:15pm.

  • The land of seaweed workers

Departure from Brest Arena at 9:45am by bus to Plouguerneau. Meeting at 10:30am at the Ecomuseum of Seaweed and Algae for a guided tour. The museum is both historical and scientifically oriented. You will discover the history of seaweed harvesting, the evolution of the seaweed farmer's job as well as the numerous applications of seaweed (food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals...). At the end of the visit you will enjoy a tasting of organic seaweed tartar. Lunch at the restaurant L'auberge du Pont. At 3:00pm, boarding for a non-stop commented cruise on the Aber Wrac'h river from the port of Aber Wrac'h. Up the river to Paluden and out to the Stagadon Island with approach to the Virgin Island (duration 1h30). Return by bus to the Brest Arena around 5:30pm.

  • Roscoff and the Marine Station

Departure at 8:00am from Brest Arena by coach to Roscoff. Visit the Roscoff Marine Laboratory, a modern marine biology laboratory by the sea and discover the large diversity of algal studies and discoveries that were and are currently developed at Roscoff from the genes to the ecosystems. The location of the Station Biologique de Roscoff (SBR) offers access to exceptional variety of biotopes, most of which are accessible at low tide. These biotopes support a large variety of both plant (700) and animal (3000) marine species. Its exceptional location at the heart of a hot spot for seaweed biodiversity for the North Atlantic provided during 150 years breakthroughs in the understanding of seaweed and plankton biology, ecology, systematics, biochemistry, genetics, and biotechnology. Lunch at the restaurant. At 3:00pm, discovery of the Exotic and Botanical Garden of Roscoff. A site classified as a "remarkable garden". Created in 1986, the Garden presents to the public one of the largest collections of southern plants cultivated in the open air in our climate (more than 3500 species): mainly composed of plants from South Africa, Oceania, South America, the Canary Islands, Madeira and Central America. These plants are not classified by continent but arranged to form a "natural" landscape. (Visit of about 1h - 1h15). Return by bus to the Brest Arena around 5:00pm.

Visits:

Visit of Océanopolis aquarium. Dive into the Biodiversity of Brittany, tour the warm seas, travel to the heart of the ice and meet otters, dolphins and other marine mammals (2h30 guided tour).  Discover the sea bed by visiting the different pavilions. Brittany: The 42 aquariums follow the rhythm of the seasons thanks to the natural sunshine. Open your eyes and ears, it's an acoustic and interactive visit that awaits you. Tropical: Multicolored fish, coral reef, lagoon, sharks and tropical greenhouse: set course for the warm seas and the intertropical belt. Polar: Immerse yourself in two extraordinary ecosystems. The journey begins in Antarctica and continues in the Arctic. Accompanied by a scientific mediator, you will walk behind the scenes of the park to discover the backstage, the residents and the technical areas. You will approach what was until now reserved for the staff of Océanopolis.

Visit the 70.8 exhibition at the Capucins. The Ocean at the heart of societal and environmental issues. The ocean covers 70.8% of our planet’s surface. It is at the heart of the societal (food, health, energy, transport, etc.) and environmental  (climate, biodiversity, etc.) challenges of tomorrow. Drawing on the expertise of scientists and industrialists in the maritime sector, Brest Métropole has initiated the creation of a new space for scientific, technical and industrial culture. Showcase of the World Campus of the Sea, it illustrates the maritime excellence of the territory in terms of research, technological  development and innovation in certain fields. A space for science and innovation. 70.8, gallery of maritime innovations, addresses three major themes around the Ocean: a resource space for the future, a navigation area, studying the ocean to better understand it. From marine biotechnologies to deep sea exploration, maritime routes to the development of renewable marine energies, the means of transport of tomorrow to knowledge of the ocean through satellites, each major theme is illustrated by projects carried by partners scientists and industrialists.
